An emphasis on some of the best moments of the new issue, capturing the color of the season, eternal praise for Kemuri’s cappuccino jar and more.
In the Studio
While we were already looking forward to photographing the couple behind Frett & Co. Clockworks in their home and seeing the space where vintage timepieces come back to life, it was even more delightful than expected.
“Kylie and Brendan’s home is just beautiful,” stylist and editorial contributor Josie Burnett says. “You can tell they are each creative in their own way. While he creates in the watch studio, she creates needlepoint designs and is a master gardener, so naturally, there are blooming plants all around.”
A Pop of Color
Butter yellow, the inescapable color of the season, is front and center on cover girl Dr. Deanna Sasaki-Adams, noted neurosurgeon and chair of the UAMS Department of Neurosurgery.
“We chose to photograph her at the Arkansas State Supreme Court Annex for its architectural features: towering rectangular concrete columns, glass panels around the building and graphic interior wall art,” art director Emma Devine says.
“The softness of the yellow, the drape of the outfit and the warmth of Dr. Sasaki-Adams’ smile made for a really interesting contrast against the hard materials of the building, while the yellow both pops against and complements the colors of the structure wonderfully.”
Good Taste
Sometimes good taste runs in the family. David Johnson, an account executive for Apptegy, and his son Carter, who will start eighth grade in the fall, have been enthusiastic members of the local foodie scene dating back before they launched their Taste Buds account on Instagram in 2022. The review duo scopes out the metro (and even some vacation spots) sharing everything from exclusive menus at fine dining establishments to seasonal flavors at your favorite haunts.
We asked the Buds to lay out their dream meals, and they didn’t disappoint.
- Appetizer: bacon-wrapped dates for David and truffle deviled eggs for Carter, both from The Pantry
- Salad: chopped salmon salad from Samantha’s for David, caesar salad from The Pizzeria for Carter
- Entree: beef tenderloin with goat cheese sauce and portobello mushrooms from Ristorante Capeo for David, fettuccine alfredo with shrimp from Raduno for Carter
- Dessert: cappuccino jar from Kemuri for both
- Drinks: an old fashioned from Brood & Barley for David, Jarritos soda from El Sur for Carter
Standout Quote
“I think moms in our state deserve us to see this through, deserve to see our statistics improve, even when the grant funding or the novelty of it is dimmed.”
