SoMardi Gras Festivities to Return in February

It looks like the good times are rolling back our way.

SoMardi Gras, SoMa’s annual Mardi Gras celebration, is set to make its return to Main Street on Saturday, Feb. 10.

The 14th annual festivities start at noon from 24th and Main streets with a parade full of floats, cars, walkers and pets all set around this year’s theme of “SoMa Under the Sea,” so we expect plenty of mermaid goodness. The top two floats will take home cash prizes.

After the parade, the fun continues with an all-day block party, local vendors, live music, activities for the kiddos and The Root’s 11th annual beard and mustache contest at The Bernice Garden.

New on the event lineup this year is the SoMardi Gras Ball on Feb. 9, an evening designed to “[set] the stage for the grand celebration the following day” with a local menu, live music and more entertainment.

Registration for floats, vendors and volunteers is open now, as are ticket sales to the ball. To learn more, visit the SoMa website, and follow along on Facebook and Instagram for updates.
