The Paper Hearts Bookstore is arriving in person for the first time for a pop-up booth at the White Water Tavern Farmers Market on Saturday, July 31, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The store is owned by Beth Quarles and Adrienne Dailey Autin, who met through their work with the Girl Scouts and realized they both had a passion for books, reading and talking about what they read. After about four years, the friends decided to go into business together and start up the bookstore. Autin, who works as a graphic designer, created all of their branding and developed their website.
The pop-up bookstore opened up earlier this month, selling new and used books and audiobooks online through Bookshop and Libro. Now, they’re excited to bring the books in person.
“We wanted to be accessible to different neighborhoods and take the show on the road, and be able to pop-up in a lot of different places and partner with different businesses,” Autin says.
Paper Hearts will also be popping up later at Nexus Coffee and Creative in August. Their plan is to have pop-up events every two weeks as they get the hang of it, but will likely make an appearance at White Water Market every month.
“We wanted to have a place where families felt welcome, where kids felt welcome, where you don’t have to feel intimidated by any book recommendation that we might give,” Quarles says. “Any recommendation that we give is going to be something that we think this person is going to walk away with a smile or leave some kind of big feeling with them.”
With continued support from the community, Quarles and Autin hope to one day own a mobile “book truck” that they can transport to larger events and make books more accessible than ever. When that dream can become a reality is undetermined, but the duo is excited to bring people books on the go.
For now, they are focusing on making books accessible through new and used book price points. They have included a survey on their site so they can improve their inventory and provide for the reading needs of the community.
“There is a book for everybody and I am excited to connect readers with their new favorite book,” Autin says.
