Use the third Monday in January to celebrate the legacy left by Martin Luther King Jr. while giving back to the community.
The 2025 King Holiday Day of Service, Day of Impact hosted by the Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission is expanding this year into a week’s worth of events and activities, most of which encourage citizens to perform acts of service in order to “promote education, an appreciation for history and to encourage youth to engage in positive leadership development and roles within their communities.”
Throughout the week, the commission will host a lineup of events, including food giveaways, free bus rides and services for those in need, as well as hands-on volunteer opportunities. Finally, the holiday will conclude with a unity vigil at North Shore Riverfront Park featuring a candle lighting ceremony and fireworks display at 6 p.m.
Multiple organizations are also hosting service-minded events and programs around the city on MLK Jr. Day, including the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center and Little Rock Zoo, so keep an eye out if you want to get involved.
The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission is a state agency that works to promote equality and acceptance of all in Arkansas. The commission hosts year-round service events and programs across the state and has assisted towns like Harrison in rebranding their city’s image toward becoming a more inclusive place.
