Thursday, July 9

Art Insights: Will Barnet at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts // Continuing the series for AMFA is this conversation in conjunction with Barnet’s “Seasons of Life” currently on display. Bill Meek, director emeritus of the Harmon-Meek Gallery and a close friend of the artist, will join AMFA’s Dr. Catherine Walworth for a discussion on the painter and printmaker’s work. Thursday – Saturday, July 9-11

Classic Movies at Ron Robinson Theater // The popcorn is flowing once again at the CALS theater in the River Market. Up first is “Legally Blonde” on Thursday and “Fried Green Tomatoes” on Friday, both at 7 p.m. Then on Saturday is “Jurassic World” at 12:30 p.m. and the next Exhibition on Screen installment “Caravaggio” at 4 p.m., followed by an interactive screening of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” at 8 p.m. Learn more here.

Thursday – Sunday, July 9-12

Opening Weekend at Local Theaters // The stages are hopping this weekend and we have zero complaints. There’s a ’90s-fueled reimagining of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” at The Rep, “Footloose” at Murry’s Dinner Playhouse and the hit comedy “The Cake” at the Argenta Contemporary Theatre. Plus, the raucous Red Octopus Theatre Co. returns to The Weekend Theater for a three-day run of its new sketch comedy show “Wet, Hot, American Bummer.” 

 

Friday, July 10

2nd Friday Art Night in Downtown Little Rock // It’s 2FAN time, aka the monthly lineup of downtown businesses opening their doors for after-hours artistic fun. Highlights this month include the fifth annual Hop-Off brewing competition at the Historic Arkansas Museum, live music at the Old State House Museum, a Pride after-party market at Fassler Hall, a botanical bar at Bella Vita and vendors, crafts and entertainment at CALS Main. 2FAN runs 5-8 p.m. Learn more here.

 

Friday & Saturday, July 10 & 11

Shakespeare Summer at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts // AMFA is kicking off its new series spotlighting the Bard with some of his greatest hits. On Friday, catch a screening of “10 Things I Hate About You” (based on “The Taming of the Shrew”) at 6:30 p.m., starting with a Q&A with screenwriter Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith. Then on Saturday, watch a filmed stage production of the source material performed on the iconic Globe stage at 2 p.m. Learn more here.

Saturday, July 11

Ninth Anniversary Celebration at Nexus Coffee & Creative // We’ll raise a cup of joe to that. Tasty drinks, sweet treats, local vendors and live music are all part of the downtown coffee shop’s birthday celebrations. Get in on the fun all day from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Learn more here.

Summer Sizzle Celebration at Breckenridge Village // The West Little Rock Farmers Market is turning up the heat this weekend with special activities and guests.
