WOMEN TO WATCH

Rachel J. Eells

Director, School of Education
UA Little Rock

After moving back to Arkansas in 2021, I was able to reconnect with colleagues at UA Little Rock and fill some needed interim positions. Now, as the director of the school of education, I am leading my colleagues as we transform our education programs to better prepare future teachers to be day one ready for Arkansas schools.

PRESSING QUESTIONS

Nonprofit I wish more people knew about

Positive Atmosphere Reaches Kids (P.A.R.K.) is a wonderful program that provides afterschool and summer tutoring and support for at-risk youth (grades 8-12) in central Arkansas.

Best career moment so far

It has been a joy to see students that I taught as children become teachers and leaders in the community, especially as I returned to work at my alma mater.

What I learned from my first job

At Christ Little Rock, I learned how to be part of a collegial learning community, and how to own my expertise and my role in the lives of my students.

How I knew this was my passion

I had planned to be a teacher since high school, and I knew it was time to teach college when I wanted to talk to my fifth graders about metacognition.
