For years, I had a private practice in general dentistry and was honored to treat my patients. Many became family to me. I sold my practice for an opportunity at UAMS and earned a master of public health in health policy and management. I employ these skills daily in utilization management as dental director at Delta Dental of Arkansas.

PRESSING QUESTIONS
Biggest challenges in my career
Being underestimated! Surprisingly, it is a really good asset. There were few women in dentistry when I began, however now the percentage of women in this career path has exploded.
One practice I use to maintain my mental health
Music. Playing the piano can heal any and everything. After playing Chopin, Beethoven, Gershwin or Joplin, perspectives change, the mind escapes and you realize nothing is too much to overcome.
What I learned from my first job
In college, I played piano at a hotel restaurant/bar for extra money. I learned to be prepared, be timely and be presentable. Also learned to make my study hours count!
Nonprofit I wish more people knew about
The International College of Dentists. This organization supports and funds mission trips and humanitarian causes. This committed group of dentists makes it possible for thousands to receive dental care globally.
