WOMEN TO WATCH

Dr. Charlotte Lewellen Williams

Professor of Public Health / Director of the Center on Community Philanthropy
Clinton School of Public Service

The Center on Community Philanthropy is a statewide and national academic-based unit within the Clinton School dedicated to researching, teaching and practicing community philanthropy as a strategy for delivering public service. Community-based participatory research was my training and community philanthropy was intriguing. The opportunity to merge the two was irresistible. The director’s position became available, so I applied.

PRESSING QUESTIONS

Nonprofit I wish more people knew about

The Black Women’s Health Imperative. BWHI is a national nonprofit committed to promoting health equity for Black women and girls in the U.S. since 1983.

What I learned from my first job

Tipping matters, so do it freely. Waitressing was my first job. It was short lived because my father hated the uniform. However, I made a little money even without a paycheck.
