Video: Star Jones ‘Goes Red’ for Heart Health

Hundreds of women joined survivors and heart health advocates at the annual American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women luncheon in Little Rock yesterday afternoon.

The luncheon celebrates survivors of heart disease and stroke. This year, the featured guest speaker was TV host, attorney and best-selling author Star Jones. Jones has been an advocate for heart health since undergoing open heart surgery five years ago. She spoke to Soirée about how events like this help make incredible strides in prevention.

Today, hundreds of women attended the annual central Arkansas Go Red For Women – American Heart Association luncheon. The event included health screenings, an educational expo and an auction. Chaired by Elizabeth Banko, the Go Red for Women movement has been the driving force of heart health for millions of women for a decade, advocating for education, awareness, research and quicker action against heart disease in women.

An estimated 43 million women in the U.S. are affected by cardiovascular disease. Today nearly 300 fewer women die from heart disease and stroke each day since the beginning of the Go Red For Women movement. In December 2014, stroke dropped from the fourth leading cause of death to the fifth.

Here are a few photos of from the VIP reception before the luncheon began. Be on the lookout for more in an upcoming issue of Soirée.
