Double, double, toil and tastiness. Yes, this calls for a maximum dose of cheesiness. Do we care? Of course we don’t; we’re way too excited about the Arkansas Repertory Theatre’s upcoming 40th mainstage season being less than a month away.
As if that wasn’t reason enough to get excited, The Rep is upping the ante yet again by teaming up with Stone’s Throw Brewing for the season opener, William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth.” In honor of the troubled Scot, they’ve created a brand new malty Scottish Red Ale, its reddish hue reflecting some of the tale’s nastiest battles. The beer also has a hint of rye, spicing up the full-bodied beverage.
Now comes the fun part: You get to name it.
Starting Monday, August 17, through Friday, August 21, you can submit your brew names online (check The Rep’s Facebook page for links). The top five will be announced on August 24, and everyone gets the chance to vote by liking their favorite name on Facebook. The name with the most likes wins, and voting ends August 26.
The winning name will be announced with the unveiling of the ale on Friday, August 28, at 6:30 p.m. at 6:30 p.m. at Stone’s Throw. The winner will receive a growler of the beer and two tickets to “Macbeth.”
You can find the ale at Stone’s Throw throughout the play’s run, September 11-27. To sweeten the deal even more, Loblolly Creamery will also incorporate the beer into a special ice cream that will be sold at its counter and at The Rep until closing night.
Tickets to “Macbeth” go on sale Monday, August 17. You can purchase yours online by visiting The Rep’s website. You can also call (501) 378-0405 or stop by the theater’s box office downtown at 601 Main St., Little Rock.
