Once you hit a certain age, St. Patrick’s Day can almost become synonymous with green beer. This is a very unfortunate thing.
Luckily, the folks at Colonial Wines & Spirits seem to agree. They have graciously provided us with a cocktail recipe that’s every bit as festive and a thousand times more creative than green beer. (They also have a guide to Irish whiskey on their site, if you’re so inclined.)
Without further ado, meet the drink you’ll be sipping on St. Patty’s Day.
The Orange Irishman
The Ingredients:
- 4 oz. Bushmills Irish whiskey
- 2 oz. Lillet Blanc
- 2 tsp. Cointreau Orange Liqueur
- 4 dashes orange bitters
- lemon peel, for garnish
The Process:
Combine ingredients in a shaker filled with ice. Shake until well chilled, about 30 seconds. Strain into chilled cocktail glass or rocks glass. Rim the glass with thin strip of lemon peel, twist lemon peel above drink and use as garnish. Yields two drinks.
