When I was invited to brunch at a castle and told I would be taking a carriage ride to get there, of course I couldn’t resist.
Tucked away in west Little Rock, the Castle on Stagecoach offers a memorable brunch experience that will leave you wishing you could go back every Sunday. The all-you-can-eat (and drink) meal features a bountiful buffet and dessert table fit for a king (or queen).
When you arrive at the Castle, guests park at the school next door where a quaint horse and carriage comes to pick you up and take you down a path to the castle. The castle itself was built in the early 1930s and members of the family who own the building still live there. It sits on more than 100 acres.
The brunch, prepared by Bistro Catering and executive chef Bonner Cameron, left nothing to be desired. It featured all the classic breakfast items — eggs, waffles, pastries, breakfast potatoes, fresh fruit, bacon sausage and more. But there were also so many other dishes — chilled shrimp, a carving station of prime rib, made to order omelets, macaroni and cheese and more. The prime rib was mouthwatering and the breakfast potatoes perfectly seasoned.
And of course you can’t have a perfect brunch without a mimosa.
And to top that all off was a dessert table filled with cakes, pastries and pie. My personal favorite? The pecan pie — it’s kind of a fall classic, and normally I have to wait till Thanksgiving dinner to eat it.
And an added bonus — there’s live music throughout your entire meal from a strolling fiddle player. It can’t get much more medieval than that.
The $55 per person brunch is held once a month at the Castle on Stagecoach and the next one will be a special Thanksgiving-themed occasion on Nov. 15. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
