The St. Joseph Center of Arkansas is stepping into a new chapter with plans to open a SJCA Farm Store at Breckenridge Village.
The retail store will be located in the same building as The Root Cafe and will feature locally grown produce and Arkansas vendors, just as it did from its popular farm stand in North Little Rock.
Last March, a devastating fire tore through St. Joseph’s historic grounds, and when the Catholic Diocese of Little Rock made the decision not to rebuild, SJCA began the process of finding new homes for its farm animals, salvaging its artists’ studios and packing up the farm stand.
Since SJCA officially left the property in January, it has been steadily building its community in the metro by finding new outlets for its commitment to agriculture and the arts, including through supporting community gardens and its weekly Argenta Farmers Market at Flyway Brewery.
Most notably, SJCA helped launch the new West Little Rock Farmers Market at Breckenridge Village, a team effort from local businesses “dedicated to investing in west Little Rock’s local food economy.”
“The Breckenridge Village ownership team saw a true neighborhood hub for food, culture and connection and invited SJCA to be part of it,” the SJCA website says. “That kind of shared vision is rare, and we’re grateful to be building it alongside partners who understand that a food community is more than the sum of its tenants.”
Details have yet to be released concerning an opening date or timeline for the new store.
