Soirée’s 2011 Women To Watch: Christie Beck M.D.

Christie Beck M.D.,
Partner, Little Rock Gynecology & Obstetrics, PLLC

I practice comprehensive women’s health care from puberty through menopause. Along with Drs. Karen Kozlowski and Jenny Gregory, I provide the women of central Arkansas the opportunity to be cared for exclusively by female doctors in an environment where each visit is a positive, healing experience. With the modern resources of Baptist Health, my patients receive the most innovative care, from the operating room to labor and delivery.

ON POWER
People often underestimate the power of delivering a baby safely into the world and providing guidance for women as they embark on the most amazing journey of their lives — motherhood.

I felt most powerful when I had two babies in medical school, then graduated first in my class with a 4.0. During my residency, I was blessed with a daughter.  My husband, Jason, and my children keep me centered, inspired, and most importantly, laughing.

A true sign of power is the opportunity to empower my patients with knowledge about their bodies so that they can make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

ON MOTIVATION
Perhaps Pulitzer Prize winner Katherine Graham said it best, “To love what you do and feel that it matters … how could anything be more fun?”

Career goal? To always practice evidence-based medicine and therefore never stop learning. Knowing the science behind clinical practice will continue to guide how I deliver health care.

ON SUCCESS
I will know I’m successful when I have delivered two generations of babies.

POWER SUIT
In the OR, my power suit is definitely scrubs, zebra print Danskos and a cute surgical hat tied with a ribbon. My wonderful mother has custom-made my surgery hats since residency to accommodate my long hair in a chignon. They add a soft feminine touch that I think is an important part of who I am as a woman and a surgeon. As a clinician, I strive to balance fashion and function. I love fun shoes, but even my four-inch heels must be comfortable. Jimmy Choo and Michael Kors are favorites that keep me moving through a busy clinic.
