“Bring your story to the table.”
That’s the tagline for Argenta’s newest storytelling project, Potluck & Poison Ivy. Housed in The Joint Theater and Coffeehouse, this new show features locals sharing their stories — Southern, savory and sometimes a little poisonous — much like the now-defunct Tales of the South program.
Potluck & Poison Ivy is scheduled for the fourth Thursday of each month, beginning with the ACANSA fundraiser on May 25. Season one kicks off with storytellers Kevin Kresse, Tyler Thompson and Susan Elder, with live music by the Papi Band featuring Heather Smith at 6 p.m.
The June 22 gathering puts Rex Nelson and Paul Austin of the Chewing the Fat podcast front and center, while the August event features Melissa Thoma.
All subsequent shows are TBA, so if you’re interested in sharing your own story, email your 200-word-or-less pitch to info@potluckandpoisonivy.org.
And don’t worry, there will be plenty of food to go around at these events. Southerners don’t use the word “potluck” in vain.
