It's a bird! It's a plane! It's ... a poorly bedazzled reindeer.

There's a new cable knit 5K on the block: the Ugly Sweater Race. Created by the team behind the Little Rock Marathon, this family fun run is set for 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Outlets of Little Rock.

As you might have guessed, what makes this race special is that runners are encouraged to show off their ugliest, funniest, gaudiest holiday sweaters for the occasion. While they may not have the dry-wick capabilities of your regular running attire, we have a feeling the hilarity will more than make up for it.

This timed 5K will feature a custom finisher's medal, technical participant shirts and post-race festivities, including an ugly sweater contest. There's even an "elf dash" for speedy children under 10 years of age. And if we've learned anything from this organizing team, runners can expect lots of high-energy holiday fun.

For more information and to claim your spot, visit the Ugly Sweater Race website, and follow along on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
