MISSION
Literacy Action has worked hard since 1986 to teach literacy skills to struggling readers in central Arkansas.
Our student, Consuelo, began taking English classes to improve her speaking and listening skills and to read bedtime stories to her youngest grandson. Consuelo is just one of the 145,000 adults (10%) in our area who are functionally illiterate. Adult literacy helps break the cycle of poverty by giving adults the skills they need to be successful workers and parents.
We currently help over 650 adult students a year get better jobs, improve their health and financial literacy, and teach their children the value of education. All services are offered free of charge.
