The theme for the South Main district this Saturday is laissez les bons temps rouler — big time.

SoMa is celebrating Mardi Gras with a full day of events and activities marking the Cajun holiday, and it all kicks off with the annual SoMa Mardi Gras Parade. At noon, the parade will start at 24th Street, making its way down Main Street with floats and walkers in tow to the finish line at 12th Street.

After the parade, stick around for The Root Café's seventh annual Beard and Mustache Contest at the Bernice Gardens. Contestants will be judged on categories like Best Santa Claus, Best Mustache, Most Original Beard and a women's category for Best DIY Crafted Beard.

If you don't care for facial hair, we suggest stopping by SoMa's restaurants who are having a Mardi Gras party of their own. Opening its doors at 10 a.m., Raduno will be slinging cucumber mimosas, signature bloody marys and hurricanes for the masses. Keeping in line with the Mardi Grad Parade theme of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," Raduno teamed up with Electric Ghost to create special rainbow/unicorn/pizza tees so you can brunch and parade in style.

If you want to make the day all about Fido (and who wouldn't?), head over to Bark Bar's Mardi Paw celebration after the parade for drink specials, a selfie station and all the fun your furry friend can handle.

To get details on all of these events, check out the neighborhood Facebook page and keep up with all things SoMa.
