The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Arkansas broke ground on its new 35,000-SF house Tuesday.
Currently, the only Ronald McDonald House in the state is located here in Little Rock at 1009 Wolfe Street, but in a little over a year, when this new facility is complete, they won’t need that building anymore.
The new house will include 32 bedroom suites, a large kitchen and dining room, laundry facilities, family lounges, indoor and outdoor play areas, a tree house, a basketball half court and more.
With $7.5 million already donated, the charity is working on raising the last million to complete the project.
Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony about his twin sons who were born premature, and how through this house, families can be there with their children during times like those. The organization offers a home away from home for families with hospitalized children, particularly Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
