Thursday night, country music mega-star Garth Brooks played the first of three shows this weekend at the Verizon Arena and Arkansans are insanely excited. It’s been 23 years since he’s been here, but it looks like he’s back with more energy than ever.
“Sometimes you go places you remember being a blast, and Little Rock is one of those places,” he said at a press conference Thursday afternoon.
Brooks also mentioned how lucky he felt to be here to close out one of the best years of his life. And just what made 2014 so special?
“My kids are healthy, I get to travel the world with the love of my life and I get to play music again.”
As far as what audiences can expect, he says to look for the old traditions you love, new ones to get excited about, and that everybody will have a good time.
“It’s going to be loud,” Brooks said. “I remember this crowd.”
When the press conference was over, Soirée got a few minutes to talk with THE Garth Brooks to ask him about the things that matter most in life.
Soirée: We’re with the city magazine in town called Little Rock Soirée, and we’re definitely here for the hard hitting questions, so are you ready?
Garth Brooks: Good, yes, just don’t ask me how to spell Soirée.
S: So number one. How many cowboy hats do you own?
GB: Oh, I don’t know, hundreds.
S: Which one’s your favorite?
GB: Well, they’re all the same. They’re all Stetson 4X black Tylers. You’ve got them in case they get worn out, you throw one out, you give one away, then you just put on another one.
S: Are there any restaurants in town you want to hit while you’re in Little Rock?
GB: No, but my favorite menu is one where you open it and it says “a lot.” “What do you guys want?” “A lot.” That’s my favorite.
S: What’s you favorite thing to eat when you’re on the road?
GB: My favorite thing to eat all the time is pizza, but my favorite thing Ms. Yearwood makes: mashed potatoes. If you notice with both of those, there are no bones, there’s nothing to get choked on, just eat as much as you can.
S: And as fast as you can.
GB: Amen!
S: So what’s your favorite kind of pizza?
GB: Round.
And with that, he had our hearts. Little Rock, Mr. Brooks is back.
