MY FIRST JOB AND WHAT IT TAUGHT ME
My first job was a paperboy for the Arkansas Gazette. It taught me the value of arriving early, persevering through challenging landscapes and climates and delivering no matter what.
NONPROFIT I WISH MORE PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT
Other than the Catholic High Foundation, I believe in work done by two of my kids: Vital Voices (daughter Abby works there ensuring economic empowerment for women) and Georgetown Prisons and Justice Initiative (son Sam is a graduate assistant there.)
WHAT KEEPS ME COMING BACK TO MY JOB EVERY DAY
I enjoy working with kids because they ensure my schedule is never set. Rare is the day that I just check off events on my calendar. Instead, I’ll juggle chainsaws, laugh with the clowns and applaud the performers.
A SKILL I NEVER EXPECTED TO USE IN THIS FIELD
Plumbing. I can fix a urinal with the best of them – and that’s something not offered in most leadership programs.
ONE THING I WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT MY COMPANY
In a crowded educational landscape surrounded by political noise, Catholic High revels in the simplicity of its mission: helping parents build their sons into good husbands, good fathers and good leaders in the community. Though tactics change, our expectations don’t.
