HOW I KNEW THIS WAS MY PASSION
In 1995, a retired German couple approached me to build a home for them. I explained that I had only built two homes and I also worked for Tyson Foods. He said “Great. Our home will be your fourth!”
MY FIRST JOB AND WHAT IT TAUGHT ME
My first job was a position working at Ms. Alice Walton’s company. It was there I learned that I needed to leave the accounting to the accountants, but that spreadsheets and financial analytics really interested me.
NONPROFIT I WISH MORE PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT
Home for Healing offers guests a place to stay while they or a family member receives treatment from a local hospital. My wife and I are co-chairing their largest fundraiser to raise money and awareness for this worthy cause.
A SKILL I NEVER EXPECTED TO USE IN THIS FIELD
The Pythagorean theorem. I swore to my eighth grade teacher that I would NEVER, EVER use that in real life. Nine years later, I was constructing a home’s foundation, checking the diagonal calculations to ensure the foundation layout was square.
