Men on a Mission 2022: Bart Barlogie

MY FIRST JOB AND WHAT IT TAUGHT ME
My first job was sitting behind a desk. I knew very quickly that I was not cut out for that world. I realized that I wanted to be on my feet and moving.

WHAT KEEPS ME COMING BACK TO MY JOB EVERY DAY
I truly enjoy the people that I work with and their ability to help guests feel happy and comfortable. I love hospitality at my core and the ride that comes along with it.

BIGGEST CHALLENGES IN MY CAREER
In my career, our business is like opening your home to the public every day. Trying to navigate this can be hard work. More recently, COVID-19 has presented a whole new set of challenges in rising food costs and lower labor pool.

ONE PRACTICE I USE TO MAINTAIN MY MENTAL HEALTH
Laughter. I often can get down or overwhelmed with stressors around me. If I find a way to make myself laugh, it’s almost always the cure for my mental health.

BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED:
This one is hard. I’ve received many great pieces of advice. I would probably say “do what’s right, not what’s easy.” Taking the easy way out is very tempting sometimes. But in the long run, it’s not worth it.
