MY FIRST JOB AND WHAT IT TAUGHT ME
Hauling hay and picking strawberries taught me that hard work was not enough to make a change in the world around you. You need to have a vision, support and goals that reinforce you on this arduous journey of life.
NONPROFIT I WISH MORE PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT
I wish more people knew about GAIN, Inc. (Greater Assistance to those in Need). It is a treatment program that supports people with severe and persistent mental illness by wrapping services around them so they can successfully live in the community.
WHAT KEEPS ME COMING BACK TO MY JOB EVERY DAY
The joy of seeing patients’ lives transformed by addressing their mental health needs and watching them reengage the world again with passion and purpose.
BIGGEST CHALLENGES IN MY CAREER
Overcoming society’s judgment and marginalization of mental health/mental illness. Whether induced by trauma, genetics or stress, the brain, just like any organ, can be damaged. People should see treatment as taking care of themselves, their body and their brain.
A SKILL I NEVER EXPECTED TO USE IN THIS FIELD
My skill of telling great dad jokes. Humor helps in creating humility that to not take oneself too seriously. Dad jokes cause the person to groan and then smile. Laughter really is the best medicine.
ONE THING I WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT MY COMPANY
TMS Arkansas provides a safe, non-invasive, non-medication based treatment for people who suffer from depression. As a doctor, I want each patient to have the best outcome with the least side effects and my staff is there to help.
