Men on a Mission 2021: Dr. Jamie Griffin

BEST CAREER MOMENT SO FAR
Discovering Episcopal Collegiate School! I wholeheartedly believe that our mission, physical location and resources have our school uniquely poised to serve the people of Little Rock as the city’s marquee pre-K-12 educational institution.

HOW I KNEW THIS WAS MY PASSION
The first time I counseled a struggling student I learned that every day presents opportunities to positively affect the trajectory of a young person’s life. There is nothing more rewarding than unlocking the potential of students and facilitating their success.

MY FIRST JOB AND WHAT IT TAUGHT ME
After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy, I served as an officer in the Marine Corps. Through that service I deepened my understanding of organizational leadership, strategic thinking, teamwork, resource management and how to thrive in challenging circumstances.

WHAT KEEPS ME COMING BACK TO MY JOB EVERY DAY
Choreographing the dance! A mentor once likened education to a dance with multiple partners: students, teachers, parents and administrators. Developing these relationships and working to keep the constituencies in step with one another brings me great joy and satisfaction.

BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED
My father often reminded me that “the cream will naturally rise to the top.” By doing so, he encouraged me to focus on effort and process, noting that outcomes will follow and are ultimately a reflection of both.
