Little Rock Weekend Guide: March 19-22

Spring makes its official debut this weekend and we couldn’t be happier to greet it with a full docket of local fun. Let’s get into it.

 

Thursday, March 19

Art Insights: “True Grit” at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts // Continuing the new series for AMFA is this conversation in conjunction with the recently opened exhibition “A Month of Sundays: Art and the Persistence of Time.” Artist Tim Youd and writer Jay Jenning will discuss the Arkansan behind the iconic novel and Youd’s “meditative act” of retyping it amid the exhibit’s focus on time. Thursday – Saturday, March 19-21

Classic Movies at Ron Robinson Theater // The popcorn is flowing once again at the CALS theater in the River Market. Up first on Thursday is “Best in Show” at 7 p.m. Then on Saturday is “Muppet Treasure Island” at 12:30 p.m. and the next Exhibition on Screen installment “The Danish Collector: Delacroix to Gauguin” at 4 p.m., followed by an interactive screening of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” at 8 p.m. Learn more here.

 

Thursday – Sunday, March 19-22

Disney on Ice at Simmons Bank Arena // Tell Mickey he’s on in five. Forget the fact that spring just arrived and focus on the ice as your kids’ favorite Disney characters (and maybe yours, too) perform a DJ-fueled show titled “Let’s Dance.” Expect to see the likes of Mickey, Minnie, Ariel, Moana, Simba, Elsa and so much more. Friday, March 20

Grand Opening at Pocket Dimension Bookshoppe // The metro has entered the next realm of literature with multiple new bookstores on the scene. The latest is Pocket Dimension, whose trailer you may have spotted at local pop-ups. Now it’s getting its own brick-and-mortar in Argenta in the former Dogtowne Dry Goods location. Be the first to check out the magical space’s sci-fi and fantasy shelves along with live music to celebrate. Opening day hours are 11 a.m. – 10 p.m., but the party starts during Art Walk. Third Friday Art Walk in Argenta // This monthly walk invites you to stroll through the Argenta Arts District’s lineup of special exhibits and events. Highlights include the Mid-Southern Watercolorists Annual Juried Exhibit at Laman Library, a J. Frazier pop-up at Caverns & Forests, the aforementioned bookstore opening and an open studio with Vershea, Bang-Up Betty and Lee Lee Arts + Design. Art Walk starts at 5 p.m. Learn more here. The Greenhouse Social at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds // Now this is how you spend the first day of spring. More than 130 vendors will be on hand to help you stock up on plants, sustainable goods, treats and more from fellow green enthusiasts. Expo hours are 12:30-9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Saturday. Learn more here.

 

Saturday, March 21

Territorial Fair at the Historic Arkansas Museum // Let’s get historical, y’all. In a celebration of Arkansas heritage, guests will experience a taste of life in the territorial days. Be on the lookout for reenactments, demonstrations, live music, historical dances, magic shows and pioneer games on the museum’s grounds, plus special activities with the Quapaw Nation. Trust Tree Benefit Concert at Stickyz Rock’n’Roll Chicken Shack // Spring has only just sprung, but summer is right around the corner, and that means so are Trust Tree’s music and art camps for girls and gender-expansive youth. To get amped for its 10th year of camp, the nonprofit is hosting a family-friendly fundraising show featuring the sounds of Emily Fenton, Wild Onions and Stephanie Smittle. Saturday & Sunday, March 21 & 22

“Pictures at an Exhibition” at the Robinson Center // Next up in the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra’s Masterworks Series is this show featuring the talents of violinist Julian Rhee alongside the work of Modest Mussorgsky, Benjamin Britten and Tania Leon’s ASO-commissioned piece “Pasajes.” Catch the show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday or 3 p.m. Sunday. Sunday, March 22

Lost & Found Market at 1319 Main St. // Let’s try this again. After getting rained out last weekend, this SoMa edition marks the pop-up’s second anniversary with more than 60 vendors showcasing their art, vintage goods and much more. Come shop 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Learn more here.

A Taste of the Emerald Coast at Petit & Keet // Tastiest staycation ever. This WLR restaurant is once again pulling from its Florida ties to bring a little sunshine to The Natural State. Think: oysters rockefeller, blackened mahi and key lime pie. Hours are 4-9 p.m. and it runs through next Sunday. Learn more here.

Eighth Anniversary Party at Proof Bar & Lounge // Let’s close the weekend on a delicious note. This Hillcrest spot is celebrating its birthday all evening long, and you’re invited. “The Bachelorette” Premiere at Sterling Market // You may want to check on your reality TV friends. The worlds of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” “The Bachelorette” and MomTok are colliding, and the Arkansas Cinema Society knew it was the perfect opportunity to launch its new Watch Party series.
