Love the symphony but not into the suit-and-tie routine? You’re not alone. That’s why the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra’s annual Beethoven & Blue Jeans bash is so popular.
On the weekend of Nov. 6-7, the ASO will perform two concerts of Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major and Brahm’s Symphony No. 2 in D Major. Arguably the best part? Everyone will be in casual attire — even the musicians.
The orchestra will be led by award-winning, international conductor Roderick Cox, who has led the BBC Philharmonic, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, among other illustrious orchestras.
The orchestra will also be accompanied by a performance by Conrad Tao, an award-winning pianist and composer who has played alongside the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic.
In keeping with the ASO’s commitment to the community, the Episcopal Steel Band will perform one hour before each concert on the steps of the Robinson Center. Plus, guests who bring at least 12 items to donate to the Arkansas Foodbank will receive a voucher for two free tickets to an upcoming concert in the 2021-2022 ASO season. You have two opportunities to see the show: at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday. Masks and proof of vaccination or negative COVID test are required.
