Nothing is better than vegging out after a huge Thanksgiving feast, catching up with loved ones and watching football in a tryptophan-induced haze, right?
To help you revel in the couch crash even more, Rock City Running’s annual Gobbler Turkey Trot is back, hitting the streets on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28. Now in its 13th year, the fun run/walk is moving to a new location in west Little Rock beginning at the RCR storefront in the Market Place Shopping Center on Rodney Parham Road.
The event has become a tradition for many central Arkansans with great costumes, photos with Santa, giveaways, Tom’s Tiny Trot for the kids and more family fun. Participants have their choice of 3-, 4- or 6.5- mile courses, all of which will now be pet-friendly and stroller-accessible.
As always, the heart of this community event is that it brings in tons of donations for the Arkansas Foodbank, and this year is no different. The Gobbler entry fee is canned goods, non-perishable food items or monetary donations, which have helped provide hundreds of thousands of meals for hungry Arkansans over the years. You can also drop off donations two weeks before Thanksgiving at the Little Rock Athletic Club.
Last year was the first with RCR at the Gobbler helm after the now-closed Go! Running store hosted the trot for more than a decade.
“It’s become a family tradition now for so many families, and they all go home knowing they have given to the community on Thanksgiving Day,” Go! Running owner Gary Taylor told Soirée in 2023. “It is only natural that a great local running shop hosts this event, so we are delighted that Rock City Running will continue with this and only make it better.”
It all kicks off with the Tiny Trot at 7:50 a.m. For more information on the event and Foodbank donations, head to the RCR website and follow the fun on Facebook, X and Instagram.
