It’s a good week for restaurant news.
After eyeing the construction and signage at the corner of Bowman and Markham for weeks, we finally have details: Popular chain Big Bad Breakfast is set to open its first Arkansas location on Tuesday, June 21, in the building that also houses David’s Burgers.
The Big Bad Breakfast menu is built around Southern breakfast favorites, all made in-house. Expect items like fluffy biscuits and gravy, fried chicken and waffles, crawfish omelets and breakfast skillets like the low country skillet with scrambled eggs, shrimp, andouille, onions, peppers, tomatoes, hash and cheese.
The restaurant also serves lunch (brunch, too) and has a full-service bar, including a bloody mary from scratch that regulars swear by. The space seats up to 116 patrons indoors, with additional outdoor seating.
Heading up the WLR location is a familiar face in the local restaurant scene. Ben Brainard, a former partner with Yellow Rocket Concepts (Big Orange, Local Lime, Lost Forty, Camp Taco, Heights Taco & Tamale, Zaza’s Pizza), will be the state’s operating partner for Big Bad Breakfast.
“We are incredibly excited to bring Big Bad Breakfast to Little Rock,” Brainard says. “I grew up in The Heights going to Bard’s in the ’70s and ’80s, and feel as though there’s been a bit of a hole in the market for a casual, fresh, affordable breakfast diner.”
James Beard Award-winning chef John Currence founded Big Bad Breakfast in 2008 in Mississippi with the dream of recreating the restaurants he loved as a kid with everything made from scratch. It currently has 10 locations across the South (not counting Little Rock), and each has its own local cult following.
