Blackwell’s internal drive coupled with his commitment to meet the needs of his clientele and his desire to find purpose in his vocation has led him to his passion after 17 years in the pharmaceutical industry.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio (“The Land”), Blackwell achieved his undergraduate degree from Cleveland State University and his MBA from The Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.
Blackwell and his wife Donna have been married for 19 years and he is father to Jeron, Micah, Cameron and Sarah.
Who is your mentor?
I have had the pleasure to work with and for some incredibly talented people in my career, but for me, the most influential person I’ve been around has been my dad!
What does a typical day look like?
A typical day for an insurance agent involves actively pursuing potential new clients by phone, mail, text, email or social media and then quoting and making presentations or pitches to those clients. It is also important for insurance agents to participate in educational opportunities (including mandatory continuing education for license renewal), read professional publications, maintain personal networks and participate in professional organizations like NAAIA or NAIFA. Successful insurance agents will also be actively involved in their community as it helps build their visibility and credibility locally.
What type of coverage do consumers often forget to purchase?
Most consumers often don’t think about how affordable and necessary life insurance is. Clients come to me with a singular focus: They want auto insurance or they need homeowners insurance for a home they are purchasing. As a result, part of my job is to bring out that latent need by asking the customer questions like, ”Who is your life insurance with?” to spark the conversation.
