Arkansas Cornbread Festival Returns to SoMa on Saturday

Traditions are a big part of life in the South, and one of those traditions is diving headfirst into any fresh batch of cornbread you encounter. So if you follow your nose to SoMa this weekend, you’ll find a whole bunch of locals doing just that.

On Saturday, Nov. 4, the Arkansas Cornbread Festival will make its highly-anticipated return to the South Main neighborhood between 14th and 16th streets, its first appearance since 2019.

The event will bring amateur and professional competitors together for a battle of the bakes, each vying for the most votes from festivalgoers. Attendees will also find a live music lineup, family-friendly activities and food and drinks from local establishments.

As in years past, the festival is designed to support the community, and the 2023 fest will continue that tradition by benefiting the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance.

“We’re thrilled to bring back the Arkansas Cornbread Festival for another year of culinary celebration and community engagement,” volunteer co-chair Amber Carter Jones says. “Not only do attendees get to savor mouthwatering cornbread creations, but they also have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of Arkansans facing food insecurity. Together, we can turn a love for food into a force for good.”

The festival lasts from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, but purchase of a ticket is required to taste and vote on cornbread entries.
