An emphasis on some of the best moments of the April issue, behind-the-scenes secrets and more.
Behind the Scenes of the Fashion Event
Every year, the Fashion Event inevitably draws someone deeper into the Easterseals Arkansas mission. It was nine years ago for Juli Summitt.
“I met [development officer] Kathryn Norton while volunteering at another event, and she became a client and a friend,” Summitt says. “She called and told me they needed someone to do hair backstage for the models, and I jumped on board immediately.”
Since then, she’s joined both the event planning committee and the board of directors for Easterseals Arkansas’ young professionals group The Guardians, and even recruited her coworkers at Red Beauty Lounge to lend their skills as well.
Backstage, the event mirrors exactly the celebration of empowerment Easterseals works toward every day.
“It’s exciting, happy, vibrant, electric and it’s all so contagious,” Summitt says. “The hair, makeup and wardrobe teams all have a common goal of letting the models know this is their night to shine. After we get them ready, we can’t wait to be in the crowd cheering them on while they work the runway.”

One thing our team is most excited about this month? The fifth annual Soirée Women’s Leadership Symposium on April 27 in downtown Little Rock, headlined by none other than iconic athlete Mia Hamm.

The Perfect Setting
A lot of planning goes into our spring and fall fashion features, and landing the perfect setting for this season’s shoot proved to be a challenge. But the moment we set eyes on the home of Myranda Grulke — the DIY-er, Airbnb pro and now-realtor we featured in July 2022 — we knew we’d found our spot.
“The idea was to combine past and present into an editorial that felt classic and current,” stylist and editorial contributor Josie Burnett says. “This hidden gem did just that and added a fun, contemporary twist.”

Spring Happenings
Fall is known as event season in Little Rock, but in recent years, the spring calendar has given it a run for its money. See for yourself on our April calendar (and that’s just scratching the surface).
