Get a first glimpse into a highly anticipated historical exhibit at the Clinton Presidential Center Friday (June 28).
There will be an exhibition opening of “Tribute to George Washington,” featuring a tour, reception and book signing from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Friday (June 28) in the Great Hall of the center, 1200 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock.
For a very limited time, the exhibition will feature George Washington’s personal copy of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights from Mount Vernon; George Washington correspondence from the National Archives in Washington, DC; and a portrait of George Washington painted in 1797 by artist Gilbert Stuart on loan from the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville.
The exhibition opening includes a keynote by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Joseph J. Ellis and President and CEO of Mount Vernon Curtis G. Viebranz.
Ellis is one of the nation’s leading scholars of American history. The author of eight books, Ellis was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for “Founding Brothers: the Revolutionary Generation” and won the National Book Award for “American Sphinx,” a biography of Thomas Jefferson. His in-depth chronicle of the life of America’s first President, “His Excellency: George Washington,” was a New York Times bestseller.
Curtis Viebranz is only the tenth person to head George Washington’s historic Mount Vernon estate since the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association’s stewardship began in 1858.
After the program, guests are invited and encouraged to tour the exhibit.
The exhibition closes on July 12.
Program is free, but reservations are required. Reserve your seats by emailing operationslr@clintonfoundation.org or by calling (501) 748-0425.
Following the lecture, Joseph Ellis will be available for a book signing of his new book, “Revolutionary Summer: The Birth of American Independence” and his 2005 New York Times bestseller “His Excellency: George Washington.”
