7 Places to Watch Cheap and Free Movies in Central Arkansas

Looking for a place to take cover from the storm or cool down during the hot summer heat? Several movie theaters and libraries in the area are offering a nice reprieve for movie-goers: cheap (and even free!) movie series!

Little Rock Family Managing Editor Blair Neel has highlighted cool movie series being offered by local theaters, libraries and more–all ranging from free to $2 entry.

Here is the rundown:

  1. Cinemark Summer Movie Clubhouse at Colonel Glenn 18: Enjoy summer movies–all are rated G or PG–for just a buck. The series begins June 11-12 with “Ice Age: The Meltdown” and ends with “Mr. Peabody and Sherman” on Aug. 13-14. Here are a few highlights: “The Croods” (June 25-26), “Smurfs 2” (July 9-10), “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” (July 16-17), “The Lego Movie” (July 30-31) and more.   2. Cinemark Summer Movie Clubhouse at Tandy 10 in North Little Rock: Dollar days at the theater will continue through Aug. 5, and include kid’s movies rated G or PG. The schedule includes “Epic” (June 17), “Turbo” (July 1), “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” (July 15), “Walking with Dinosaurs” (July 22), “Rio 2” (Aug. 5) and more.   3. Summer Movie Express at Regal McCain Stadium 12 & RPX in North Little Rock: Take a shopping break and take in two of the theater’s cheap family movies each Tuesday and Wednesday through Aug. 6. The lineup features: “Hotel Transylvania” and “The Smurfs 2” June 10-11, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” and “The Pirates: Band of Misfits” June 17-18 and “Kungfu Panda 2” and “Madagascar 3.” Tickets are $1 and must be purchased at the theater. Fizz Boom Movie Movie at CALS Main Library: From June 16-July 25, families can watch free family flicks at 2 p.m. each Monday, as part of the Central Arkansas Library System’s summer reading program. “Meet the Robinsons” will screen at the CALS Main Library June 16, followed by “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” 1 & 2 on June 23. “The Lego Movie” will play June 30.   5. Free Summer Movie Series at Chenal 9 Theatre at the Promenade at Chenal: Cool down at a free family film, starting June 10-12 with “The Nut Job.” The summer series also includes “Despicable Me 2” (June 17-19), “How to Train Your Dragon” (June 24-26), “Escape from Planet Earth” (July 8-10), “The Lego Movie” (July 15-17), “The Second Jungle Book: Mowgli and Baloo” (July 22-24) and more.   6. 2014 Summer Movie Series at Riverdale 10 Movies in Little Rock: Market Street Cinema is moving its operations to the Riverdale 10, which closed last year. This summer, families will be able to take advantage of the cheap movies being screened each week on Tuesday and Wednesday through Aug. 13. Check out “Epic” on June 17-18, “Turbo” on June 24-25, “Despicable Me 2” on July 1-2 and “The Lego Movie” on July 8-9. Check out the full schedule here!   7. Movies in the Park at First Security Amphitheatre: This annual, outdoor movie series in downtown Little Rock screens a different film each Wednesday at sundown. The first movie of the season is “Man of Steel” on June 11. Families will also love “Frozen” (July 2), “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” (July 9), “Hunger Games” (July 16), “Friday Night Lights” (July 23) and “E.T.” (July 30).
