Jess is participating in the Little Rock Half Marathon and is scared out of her mind. She’s never done anything like this, but is chronicling the whole process, blisters and breakthroughs, right here on Little Rock Soirée. Start with the first installment here.
You know how when you’re little and scared, and adult would pick you up and console you, singing you a song to help you calm down and realize that no, the world isn’t currently coming to an end?
Well, when you’re training for a race and your long run distances match the windchill outside, that whole “Apocalypse Now” feeling can start rushing back. That’s when you need the sweet, sweet melodies of your favorite songs to wrap you up in a little sound swaddle, making you realize that no, it isn’t coming to an end, but yes, girls run the world.
In an earlier post, I outlined some of the most fun and useful apps to get you through your run and said that I prefer podcasts to music. Don’t get me wrong, I still love podcasts, and they’re still usually my go-to. However, miracle of miracles, your body gets a lot more used to running than you ever imagined it would, and you don’t always need the distraction of a podcast. Sometimes flooding your ears with some pretty sweet jams is all it takes.
I know, I’m not sure who I am anymore, either.
Runners, we’re less than two weeks away from race day and we can use just about all the encouragement/sweet jams we can get. We used some of your favorite workout songs and incorporated some of our own to create the officially unofficial Soirée Little Rock Marathon Playlist.
You can assemble your own from the playlist below or click here to listen to it on Spotify.
Now feast your ears:
