John Starling brings all the employees of his benefits brokerage firm JTS and its growing family of affiliated companies together for a “Town Hall” meeting every July. Each year, as he stands on stage discussing successes, challenges and plans, he sees more faces in the crowd. It comes with the consistent growth he’s overseen for much of the past decade, a process driven by what he calls an “intentionally different” approach focused on innovation, customer service and personalized options designed to meet unique client needs.
Starling launched JTS in 1998 with a focus on providing solutions for the entire employee lifecycle, from hire to retire, and removing time-consuming administrative burdens on employers. The collective JTS companies have close to 200 employees located across 10 states and offices in seven states. Through expansion and affiliate companies, the firm has grown its suite of services to include human resources consulting, administrative services, leadership training, grant consulting, Medicare consulting, retirement planning and estate planning.
Despite the many challenges facing the industry, from rapidly rising healthcare costs to changing employee needs, Starling says growth remains steady because his team remains focused on “going above and beyond the services competitors typically offer.”
