Clinton Presidential Center to Host Suffragist Tea Party

Pinkies up for a fascinating afternoon of Arkansas history.

In honor of the anniversary of the 19th Amendment’s ratification, the Clinton Presidential Center is inviting guests to a Suffragist Tea Party on Saturday, July 25, celebrating the state’s unique role in the fight for women’s voting rights.

Arkansas was the first Southern state to ratify the 19th Amendment, becoming the 12th state in the nation to do so on July 28, 1919. And prior to that, Arkansas made history by allowing women to vote in primary elections in 1917, making it the only non-suffrage state at the time to grant that right.

In honor of this history, the afternoon celebration will feature a curated tea menu with sweet and savory bites, including cucumber mascarpone and chicken salad sandwiches, scones with cream and jam, strawberry shortcake and shortbread cookies, along with a selection of teas, coffee and other beverages.

Guests can also enter to win a basket of women-inspired gifts from the Clinton Museum Store. Historical attire is encouraged, but not required.

Hosted as part of the Clinton Presidential Center’s America250 commemorations, the event honors the nation’s past while recognizing the people and moments that helped shape its future. Afterward, guests can explore the “Making Amends” exhibit before it closes on July 26.

The Suffragist Tea Party begins at 2 p.m. and ticket sales end on July 20.
