The Top 7 Things to Do in the Metro This Weekend

Let’s do this thing.

Friday, June 2

“Godspell” Opening Night at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, Little Rock: Blessed be the showgoers. This reimagining of the hit musical is nothing like you’ve seen before, setting the Gospel of Matthew in a 1960s rural Alabama circus. With the help of 2 Ring Circus, this production is full of high-flying entertainment and pizzazz. Show up early to get in on circus games and food trucks, then stick around after the play for an opening night champagne toast. Showtime is 8 p.m. For more info, click here.

Saturday, June 3

Tour de Rock through central Arkansas: Pulling in cyclists from across the country, this open-course ride winds through Scott and England before landing back at the finish line in North Little Rock. Awaiting riders (and “spirit riders”) at the finish line will be Tour de Brew, an after party complete with food, drinks and music. Funds raised for the ride support the work of CARTI cancer care programs. Riders will depart on a rolling start system, the first of which begins at 6:30 a.m. For more info, click here.

Argenta Reading Series with Tyrone Jaeger at Argenta United Methodist Church, North Little Rock: If you haven’t heard, Argenta’s new monthly meetup has a goal to “connect writers directly with their audience” by inviting the two into an intimate space (and for free!). This month, author Tyrone Jaeger will present his work to the crowd, along with poet Jonathan Brown. The night starts with live music at 6:30 p.m. Readings start at 7 p.m. For more info, click here.

Total Eclipse of the Heart(land) at the Innovation Hub, North Little Rock: Check the moon phase calendar, y’all. We’ve got a full-on solar eclipse headed our way on Aug. 21 and the Innovation Hub is helping you prep for it. Bring the family and learn all about the science of the eclipse and how to view it safely. Come get your knowledge on from 12-3 p.m. For more info, click here.

Take a Run at Hunger 5K at Two Rivers Park, Little Rock: At the ready, runners (and walkers and anyone who wants to join). Raising money for the Arkansas Foodbank Summer Cereal Drive, this 3.1-mile fun run through the park is open to all. Participants can also donate cereal and funds at the race, and enjoy LePops Gourmet Iced Lollies afterward. Start time is 8 a.m. For more info, click here.

Jazzy Jeans & Jewels at the Metroplex Event Center, Little Rock: Calling all denim divas. This annual event for the Little Rock Chapter of The Links, Inc. is back with the theme “Out of Africa” for guests to show off their “jazzy” jeans and jewels while enjoying good food and entertainment. Proceeds go to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in Arkansas. It all starts at 7 p.m. For more info, click here.

Friday-Sunday, June 2-4

Riverfest in downtown Little Rock: Buckle up, everyone. This annual event is the state’s largest arts and music festival, and it takes over the River Market every year. We’re talking huge bands, lots of food, fireworks and way more fun. Plus, to celebrate the fest turning the big 4-0, Sunday is packed with activities for the whole family, all for just $5 at the gate. (Don’t worry, your regular Riverfest ticket works just fine, too.)
