It’s a sad day for the local coffee scene. Sunday night, Zetêo Coffee announced it would be closing its Little Rock location for good.
Located at 610 President Clinton Ave., Zetêo temporarily closed its doors on March 18 in response to COVID-19. But according to a Facebook post on the shop’s page written by owner Jon Mitchell, hardships brought on by the pandemic forced their decision to shutter the River Market shop entirely and focus solely on its original Conway location.
“I thought that we were on the downhill side of this COVID situation [in mid-June] and that things would be opening back up more. I figured that people would be resuming their lives soon, going back to their offices and visiting the attractions in the River Market again.
“I went to the River Market and sat in and out front of our store on several occasions for hours at a time just to observe and get a feel for what the ‘life’ and energy of the area felt like. I was hoping to see more activity. More cars driving around, more people walking around. I was looking for anything that would give me a sign that it was time to set a date for re-opening, and I simply could never get that good feeling about re-opening.”
The Little Rock location marked its third year in April and was a favorite for downtowners and those across the city.
