As of this week, some of Little Rock’s favorite restaurants are teaming up with the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance in the fight against food insecurity, particularly in light of the pandemic.
Yellow Rocket Concepts, the group behind Big Orange, Local Lime, Heights Taco & Tamale, Lost Forty and Zaza Pizza & Salad, is launching a dollar-for-dollar-match fundraising program. That means every dollar donated through a YRC physical restaurant location, restaurant website or social media platform will help feed hungry Arkansans.
“Every day, more Arkansans are facing food insecurity as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our communities,” says Alliance executive director Kathy Webb. “With the generosity of Yellow Rocket and their patrons, the Alliance will be able to continue helping Arkansans in need get food on their tables during an incredibly difficult and devastating time.”
YRC kicked things off with a $10,000 donation, and will match up to $25,000 of donations from patrons for a total of $50,000.
“From hauling boxes to gleaning fields for distribution of fresh items to ‘food deserts’, as well as fundraising, I have had opportunities to work alongside Kathy and her team over the years,” says Scott McGehee, YRC co-founder and executive chef. “The work the Alliance does is critical to the wellness of our community and states, and due to the pandemic is needed more than ever. We are so excited to call on our patrons to join forces with us to support those most in need in Arkansas.”
