I sell residential real estate, but what I do is so much more. I help my clients find the right place to call home after the wedding. I help them find the perfect house when they bring the second baby home. When it’s time to simplify and downsize, I help them sell the family home for a smaller, lower maintenance home. When my clients lose a loved one, I take on the task of selling the home, so they can concentrate on healing.
PRESSING QUESTIONS
Biggest challenges in my career
Time. Real estate is a seven-days-a-week job. It has taken me years to learn how to prioritize my time, protect my family time and not allow the constant grind of the business to overwhelm me.
Nonprofit I wish more people knew about
Ozark Mission Project. OMP performs service projects on homes for owners in need. These projects include installing wheelchair ramps or performing basic home repairs so the owner can remain in his home long term.
What keeps me coming back to my job every day
I'm a worker bee. Every day that I can use my energy, skills and experience to help my clients find their perfect home or move to the next chapter of their lives is a huge win for me.
Best career moment so far
I took everything I learned from my 14-year career in real estate and applied it to buying a historic mansion in our downtown and turning it into a new boutique hotel, The Baker.
A skill I never expected to need in this field
I know all the various ways WD-40 can be used. I carry cans in my car at all times. I have found it useful with locks, doorknobs, removing keys jammed in doorknobs, opening windows, etc.
One practice I use to maintain my mental health
When I get overwhelmed, I grab my children and snuggle with them. It reminds me that my family is what is most important to me. I have to stay calm and healthy so that I can take care of them.
Best advice I ever received
My dad had an incredible career in sales in a different industry. When I entered real estate he told me, "Answer the phone every time it rings." Every call is important.
The one thing I wish people knew about my field
It is an easy field to get into, but pay attention to who lasts. It takes grit to turn this into a career. 10% of the licensed agents are doing 90% of the work.
The first thing I do to course-correct when I hit a wall
Take a day off.
How I knew this was my passion
When I realized that I could use my skills and experience as a service to make a significant impact on others’ lives, I knew that I had discovered my passion and my lifelong career.
My first job and what it taught me
My first job as a hostess for a restaurant in my hometown taught me how to present myself to others and how to listen to what people need. I still have that hostess greeting attitude, smile and eagerness to help.
