WOMEN TO WATCH

Rachel Ward

Owner & Founder
La Petite Soirée

After managing a large event venue in Little Rock, I sought a change that allowed more time with my children. I founded La Petite Soirée to fill a gap for intimate, thoughtfully designed celebrations like showers and children’s parties. As owner and founder, I oversee operations, design and client experience to create elevated small-scale events.

PRESSING QUESTIONS

The one thing I wish people knew about my field

People think party planning is decorations and themes, but it’s really logistics, timelines, budgets, backup plans and problem solving. When it looks effortless, that’s the behind-the-scenes work at play.

How I knew this was my passion

I discovered my passion planning themed parties with my sister and going all-out for my kids’ birthdays. Creating meaningful, beautifully styled celebrations felt natural and grew into my career.

A skill I never expected to need in this field

Sales. I didn’t expect how much of this job involves selling, talking through packages and helping clients see the vision, but it’s become a big part of what I do.

What keeps me coming back to my job every day

I genuinely love what I do. Planning parties brings me joy, and having my kids see me build and create something of my own makes it even more meaningful.

What I learned from my first job

My first “job” was being an athlete. It taught me discipline, consistency and work ethic. Coaches pushed me to grow, and those lessons shape how I run my business today.

Nonprofit I wish more people knew about

Project Zero. I’ve partnered with them in different ways and would love to continue growing that relationship.

Biggest challenges in my career

Balancing business and motherhood, starting over with a new concept, getting the word out and helping people see the value in smaller, more intentional celebrations.

Best career moment so far

Partnering with Little Rock Mahjong for our Christmas event and raising over $4,000 for Easterseals was incredible, and moments like that remind me why I love what I do.

One practice I use to maintain my mental health

Bible study and working out help me stay grounded, clear my mind and maintain balance, especially during busy seasons.

Best advice I ever received

My husband consistently reminds me to know my worth and not be afraid to charge accordingly.

The first thing I do to course-correct when I hit a wall

I step away and come back with a fresh perspective. Usually it means I’ve been working on it too long.
