I was living in New York City, and I had a great job at Ralph Lauren Corporation doing online marketing. I grew tired of the grind after living there for six years and wanted to explore other options. My dad, Dr. Bruce Sanderson, created Lasercare Skin Clinic, which focused on laser treatments and injectables and wanted to expand it to include other services for skin rejuvenation and treatment. I had an opportunity to partner with him and help grow the business. I went to esthetician school in NYC then moved back to join Lasercare Skin Clinic.

Best advice you’ve ever received?

With every experience you have — good, bad, real ugly — learn from it, own it, and be better from it.

If you could have lunch with any woman, who would it be and what would you order?

I would love to spend time with Harper Lee. In “To Kill a Mockingbird,” she created my favorite characters of all-time, especially Atticus Finch. He is a hero of mine, and the opportunity to pick the brain of the person who brought him to life would be extraordinary. We would eat whatever she was serving in her home in Monroeville, Alabama.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Go to class, drink more water, wear sunscreen and don’t overthink everyone else’s opinions of you. Enjoy it all, because this is the easiest time in your life.

What’s a typical workday like for you?

Every day is different. I do a variety of procedures for a variety of people. I could spend an entire morning with one customer for an Oxylight facial, laser hair removal and tightening body treatment, or I could see 10 clients back-to-back for micro-needling treatments. However, one of my favorite things to do is to consult with new clients. By the end of the day, I have seen a lot of smiles, and that makes me smile!

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I get to help people feel better about themselves for a living. I do laser hair removal on clients with severe facial hair, and it really makes a difference in the way they feel about themselves. My micro-needling treatment helps get rid of scars on the face and/or body as a result of acne or even breast cancer. Clients who have painful acne come in, and we start the healing process for their skin and prepare them for laser treatments. I am very lucky to have the loveliest clients and to have such strong relationships with them. They trust me, and that feels really good.
