My career has included diverse, flexible roles while raising our four children, including teaching, serving as a children’s minister, owning a children’s boutique, owning a residential construction company and working in higher education. For nearly four years, I’ve led the Arkansas Hospice Foundation, now LifeTouch Health Foundation, supporting patients and families with needs and wishes beyond medical care.

PRESSING QUESTIONS
How I knew this was my passion
Hospice is a precious time. Helping those we serve live fully inspires me daily. Everyone faces life’s end, and providing compassionate, quality care to each Arkansan is a true privilege.
A skill I never expected to need in this field
Each career opportunity I’ve had has developed skills that have led to success in the next opportunity. Building relationships has been an integral part of each role.
What I learned from my first job
People interpret situations through their own perspectives, regardless of our assumptions. Acknowledging this helps them feel understood and respected, making them more open, cooperative and willing to work with you.
The one thing I wish people knew about my field
Philanthropy is built on relationships with individuals, corporations and foundations. It takes time to do it right. I have served in three institutions and have continued friendships from each organization.
One practice I use to maintain my mental health
My morning routine of meeting the sunrise without any devices, reflecting, meditating and walking outside daily, plus regular sessions with my personal trainer Trina.
Biggest challenges in my career
Navigating industries that have not traditionally welcomed women in leadership roles while earning respect for my expertise, skills and abilities has been both a challenge and a meaningful career accomplishment.
Nonprofit I wish more people knew about
LifeTouch Health Hospice provides whole-person care at the end of life, with an interdisciplinary team that supports the physical, spiritual and mental needs of patients and those who love them.
What keeps me coming back to my job every day
Leading a team that is funding ways to help hundreds of Arkansans live to the fullest in this season of their lives.
Best career moment so far
I met college president Dr. Michael Lindsay whose question about career goals led to a job offer, my "hinge moment" and launched my path to leading a foundation.
Best advice I ever received
Connect with others. Invest in their growth, helping them maximize their gifts and reach personal and professional potential. Devote your life to uplifting people, fostering unity, love, happiness and ideas.
The first thing I do to course-correct when I hit a wall
I take a walk and give myself a chance to reset.
