I’ve been a hairstylist for over 20 years. I started my career in Little Rock before earning an apprenticeship with Thomas Heinz in New York City – an intensive year-long training in technical color correction and artistic haircutting that I brought back to Little Rock in 2006. In 2018, Alicia and I opened our dream space in Hillcrest, an upscale salon in a comfortable environment.

PRESSING QUESTIONS
How I knew this was my passion
Never good at sticking with anything for very long, I knew this was my passion when the first few years flew by and I still wanted to learn and grow.
What keeps me coming back to my job every day
My clients. So many have been in my chair for over 15 years. I look forward to catching up and hearing all the happenings in their life.
Best career moment so far
I think this may be the cherry on top. Being recognized along with so many incredible women that I admire and aspire to be more like is truly a huge honor.
Biggest challenges in my career
Balance. I am still behind the chair a majority of the day. That is a completely separate business than running the daily operations of a full-service salon.
Nonprofit I wish more people knew about
Beverly Carter Foundation. A 501(c)(3) dedicated to the safety of real estate agents and lone workers. It was founded after my mother-in-law, Beverly Carter, was kidnapped and murdered while showing property to clients.
One practice I use to maintain my mental health
Breaks and snacks.
A skill I never expected to need in this field
Accounting. We have an excellent accountant, but maneuvering and navigating running daily numbers is not my forte. I’m constantly checking, double-checking and triple-checking payroll when presenting it to bookkeeping.
Best advice I ever received
Always let your conscience be your guide. Jiminy Cricket (and mom.)
