WOMEN TO WATCH

Jessica Sorg

Director of Underwriting
Legacy Capital

Legacy Capital assists individuals and families in addressing the unique needs associated with the accumulation, management and distribution of significant wealth. I started at Legacy Capital fresh out of college. With my degree in science, it was easy to transition my knowledge to life insurance and underwriting. I work with our high net worth clients one on one to ensure the best underwriting outcome and experience possible. Our underwriting process is extremely unique to the business and allows us to help people achieve their financial goals.

PRESSING QUESTIONS

Best advice I've ever received:

My dad told me when I was a teenager, “No one knows the script but you.” This has allowed me to adapt to many situations and experiences.

How I knew this was my passion:

I love helping people and thinking outside the box to help my clients meet their financial goals. I love working at a firm that allows me the freedom to develop my own processes and change midstream if necessary.

Biggest challenges in my career:

My biggest obstacle is balancing all the different hats. From being a good wife, mother, employee, friend, sister, the list goes on and on. Sometimes our biggest hurdles are the labels and constraints we place on ourselves.

Best career moment so far:

In 2016, I received the Julie Shuptrine Award from Partners Financial for excellence in life insurance underwriting. Julie was my dear friend and predecessor at Legacy. She really guided my knowledge and growth as an underwriter.

What makes Little Rock feel like home:

The unlimited amount of outdoor activities. I’ve loved watching the revitalization of Little Rock and downtown over the past 10 years or so, watching our community grow and evolve as well. Plus, we still feel small and Southern!

What keeps me coming back to my job every day:

The people, both in the office and our amazing clients. I have the opportunity to work with some of the brightest in the life insurance business.

I wish I knew how to:

Play the guitar. I love music.

A nonprofit I wish more people knew about:

Women & Children First. WCF is central Arkansas' largest domestic violence shelter and has been working for more than 40 years to empower women and their children to live independently and free from domestic violence by providing crisis intervention, safe shelter, social/legal advocacy and support services. Last year WCF provided emergency shelter for 645 adults and children, answered more than 7,300 crisis calls and assisted with more than 800 orders of protection.
