WOMEN TO WATCH

Jackie Bracey

Managing Partner and Founder
TRS Wellness

In 2012, I was COO of a rehabilitation company, and we identified a need to become more proactive. I created TRS Wellness to go directly to employers to help employees develop healthier lifestyles, be more productive at work and decrease risk for an on-the-job injury. In 2018, a co-worker/physical therapist and I bought the business from our former employer. Since that time, we have shifted our focus onto more safety, ergonomics and work-readiness offerings.

PRESSING QUESTIONS

How I knew this was my passion

I've always had a passion for health and wellness and business. Merging the two into the workplace just makes good sense, for both the employees and the employers.

Biggest challenges in my career

Many companies we work with are Fortune 500, publicly traded entities. Negotiating with Goliath is always a challenge, especially as a woman-owned, Arkansas-based company. It's also an opportunity to remember the value of our services and to not sell ourselves short.

My first job and what it taught me

At 14, I started working for Bennett's Nursery in Jonesboro. I learned the value of a work family, importance of customer relationships, how to cover up a farmer’s tan, how to work in Arkansas heat and how to tell when a watermelon is ripe!

What keeps me coming back to my job every day

Our success stories are inspiring! From getting an injured employee back to work, to identifying an underlying health condition in a post-offer test and celebrating a new tobacco-free employee, everyday we make employees more productive in the workplace through our interventions.

Best career moment so far

Being able to grow our company from seven employees in Arkansas to over 50 employees in five states from April to June in 2020 to help employers prepare for and adapt to COVID-19 in the workplace.

A skill I never expected to need in this field

Juggling! The day to day challenges, opportunities and distractions of being a small business owner, mom of three busy boys, wife to a dedicated hand surgeon and active board member of three organizations.

One practice I use to maintain my mental health

I combat stress through physical activity. A good long, solo run through Two Rivers Park is always a good reset for me.

Best advice I ever received

I've really learned the value in listening to others. I'll have to give you two: 1. "Treat others the way you want to be treated" and 2. "Mull on it."

The one thing I wish people knew about my field

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!" By investing in your employees’ overall safety and health, you can create a more productive and positive environment for your team.
