WOMEN TO WATCH

Holly Agud, M.D.

Associate Director of Psychiatry Residency Program & Medical Director of Psychiatric Services
Baptist Health

As a psychiatrist, I specialize in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental illness. In December 2021, I moved to Baptist Health NLR to establish clinical psychiatric services on campus, but also build a psychiatry residency program to train more psychiatrists in the state of Arkansas. My roles include providing patient care, administrations and educating physicians in training.

PRESSING QUESTIONS

The one thing I wish people knew about my field

Asking for help with mental health issues shows strength, not weakness. There’s no need to suffer in silence.

How I knew this was my passion

During my third year of medical school, psychiatry was the rotation I was excited to get out of bed for. It didn’t feel like work. I couldn’t get enough.

What I learned from my first job

How to say no. The projects you choose to turn down are just as important as those you choose to do. Saving energy for what’s important is a valuable skill.

Biggest challenges in my career

As a recovering people-pleaser, it’s been a challenge to course-correct residents who may be struggling. It’s a balance of supporting growth while addressing gaps, knowing patient safety is at stake.
