WOMEN TO WATCH

Partner
Wright Lindsey Jennings

Being a partner at Wright Lindsey Jennings, one of our state’s oldest and largest law firms, is a true joy. After starting my legal career as In-House Counsel at Alltel, I joined the business practice at WLJ where my colleagues and clients are what make every day so special. My practice focuses on nonprofit law, corporate formation, and business transactions. I also serve on the board of directors for Central Arkansas Christian Schools and Vine & Village. I’m energized to be on these teams serving our community.

PRESSING QUESTIONS

Best career moment so far:

I was honored being offered a position at WLJ and then becoming a partner. Also a highlight for me personally was managing my father’s successful campaign for Chief Justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court in 2016.

How did you know this is what you wanted to do?

I always wanted to follow my father’s footsteps to be an attorney. Practicing corporate law took root during my internship at Alltel. Helping people find solutions to problems is my passion.

Best advice you’ve ever received:

“You don’t have to be everything to everyone.” When my husband Jay shared this bit of wisdom, I allowed myself to focus on my strengths and not others’ expectations of me.

Favorite part of living in Little Rock?

The community and inclusive nature of the people. It doesn’t matter what I’m doing, I feel that the people I’m with care about each other.

Most rewarding part of your job:

Helping people pursue their dreams. Most of my clients are business owners or non-profits, and I love playing a small part to position their organization to impact our community.

Biggest challenges or obstacles you’ve faced in your career:

Finding a work rhythm after my third son was born last year. He’s 9 months old, and I’m still working on it!

Who is your role model?

Whether it’s domestic or professional, my mother (Susan Kemp) and two grandmothers (Margaret Kemp and Olene Gilbert) have each uniquely modeled sacrifice, commitment and resourcefulness, which I strive to live by daily.

I wish I knew how to__________.

Play the banjo. I grew up in Mountain View, Arkansas, and wish I had learned to play the banjo because of its relevance to the Ozark’s music heritage, and it was my great-grandmother’s instrument of choice.
