At Central Arkansas Water, I help facilitate the collaboration between elected officials, utility leaders and the community that is needed to ensure everyone has access to safe, affordable, high-quality water. CAW serves 500,000 people in 18 communities in seven counties as the largest provider in Arkansas. Previously, I worked as a journalist in Little Rock, Memphis and Washington, D.C.

PRESSING QUESTIONS
What keeps me coming back to my job every day
Everyone, everywhere, deserves access to safe, clean water. Unfortunately, not everyone has it. We can change that.
Best advice I ever received
Only you control your emotions and reactions. You shouldn't give others power over that. If someone spits on you, you're not angry, you're wet. You choose whether to be angry.
Best career moment so far
Getting to work in DC and report on President Barack Obama from the White House and at his campaign events was pretty darn cool and fun!
A skill I never expected to need in this field
I think we’re finally realizing that no matter the field, the so-called “soft skills” are really “power tools” that are crucial to anyone's success.
Nonprofit I wish more people knew about
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas
How I knew this was my passion
I knew public service was my passion when I witnessed questions I'd ask in my prior life as a journalist lead to policy changes that impacted people for the better.
Biggest challenges in my career
Sorting out what to do with someone's unsolicited input or advice. Aristotle said, "There is only one way to avoid criticism: do nothing, say nothing and be nothing."
My first job and what it taught me
Journalism taught me that courage is being bold in spite of fear or consequences in the name of doing what’s right and speaking up for the voiceless.
